Reflections on faith, Scripture, and the deeper life.

In this final Gospel book, we find the so-called “beloved disciple”s version of events. How did John uniquely view the ministry of Jesus? Is ther anything that John mentions that is absent from the other Gospels?

In this book of Luke, we find the same Gospel as told by Matthew and Mark but through a different perspective. What is one thing that is unique about what you read in the book of Luke?

In Mark’s account of the Gospel of Jesus, we will discover some unique journaling prompts that will encourage us to engage with this familiar book in new ways. Mark was one of the twelve disciples who spent a lot of time with Jesus personally when He was on earth - this is the book where Mark tells us about that experience.

In this first book of the New Testament, we find the start of the second part of the big story between God and His people. How does the New Testament point back to the Old Testament?

In this book about the prophecy of Malachi, our journey through the Old Testament comes to an end. In case you missed it, we have had a Bible journaling post just like this one about each book of the Old Testament - bringing us to a deeper understanding and adoration for the Word and the big story of God.

In this book of Zechariah, we find a longer prophetic message of 14 chapters. In this post we will journey through this prophetic book and discover how we can creatively respond to the text. A good question to always keep in mind when we are reading the Bible is : “What does this say to me today? What can I obey from this text?”

In this book of Haggai, we discover a short example stories with three partners: the prophet, the people, and God. See if you can mark these three speakers throughout the book using different colors. How do these partners interact with each other?

In this book about the prophecy of Zephaniah, we discover another confirmation of the other prophecies about the end. See how many themes you can identify running through all the prophetic books of the Old Testament. And, is there anything that Zephaniah mentions that is completely unique? Anything that is not mentioned anywhere else?

This is the first letter of three that a church leader named John writes to churches that he pastored and helped lead. Imagine a missionary who came to a community who did not know the Gospel. He shares it with them and they form a community of believers who come together to build each other up in the faith, a church. Then, the missionary has to go away. But he keeps in touch through letters - this is such a letter!

In Habakkuk, we read a dialogue between a prophet and God. This shows us that God is a good listener, and that He also responds to what we say. We learn from Habakkuk to make space in our prayer-conversations with God for listening. We become eager and expectant to hear Him reply. If we imagine it like texting, we see that God is not someone who never opens our messages and never responds - no! He is ready with answers. We just need to pause, watch, and listen.

In this book of Nahum, we find a second prophecy about the people living in Nineveh. A century after Jonah, God sends word to these people through another man. Can you find similarities between these two books? - Can you find a fig tree in both? How about a worm? What about a fish?

In this book about the prophet Micah we find the contrast between judgement and hope. A helpful way for us to understand this is to compare it to our emotions - if we suppress our sadness, hopelessness, and frustrations we will find that we also experience less joy, freedom and happiness. There is a depth to emotions when we experience both sides of the coin instead of throwing the whole coin away.
