✍️ Day 7 — Fasting from Lust: Training Your Flesh to Obey

🍖 Introduction: Starving the Beast

Here’s the truth: what you feed grows, and what you starve dies.

For years, I fed lust daily—porn, scrolling, daydreams, hookups. Every time I gave in, I made my flesh stronger and my spirit weaker. And then I’d wonder, “Why can’t I stop?” 🤦‍♂️

But when I started fasting—not just from food, but from lust—I discovered something powerful: you can train your flesh to obey.

Fasting is about discipline. It’s telling your body, “You’re not the boss anymore. My spirit is.”

🕳️ My Story: When I First Fasted

I’ll be real with you—my first fast was rough. I wasn’t even thinking about lust at first. I was just trying to fast from food for one day.

By lunchtime, my stomach was screaming. By dinner, I felt like I was dying. But when I pushed through, something clicked: I realized I didn’t need food as much as I thought.

That discipline carried over into other areas. If I could say no to food, I could say no to lust.

That was the start of my journey to starve the beast of lust and feed my spirit with God’s Word.

📖 Scripture That Wakes Us Up

1 Corinthians 9:27 (NIV):
“No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

Paul didn’t coddle his flesh—he trained it.

Galatians 5:16 (NIV):
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Starve the flesh, feed the Spirit.

Matthew 4:4 (NIV):
“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jesus Himself modeled fasting—depending on the Father over the flesh.

💡 What Fasting From Lust Looks Like

  • ❌ Not just avoiding porn for a day.
✅ Intentionally filling that time with prayer, Scripture, and worship.
  • ❌ Not starving yourself out of guilt.
✅ Training your flesh to obey your spirit.
  • ❌ Not just running from sin.
    ✅ Running toward God.

⚔️ Practical Steps to Fast from Lust

🚫 1. Cut Off Triggers for a Day

Pick one day this week where you go nuclear—no social media, no YouTube shorts, no flirting with temptation.

📖 2. Replace With the Word

Every time your flesh screams for a hit of dopamine, feed it Scripture instead.

🙏 3. Pray Through Hunger

Whether it’s physical hunger from food fasting or mental hunger for lust—pray every time the craving hits.

🕊️ 4. Journal the Battle

Write down what you felt. Where was it hardest? What victory did you experience? This helps you see progress.

🌅 The Reward of Discipline

When you train your flesh to obey, you stop being a slave. You start walking in freedom.

You begin to notice your spirit getting stronger. You hear God’s voice clearer. You resist temptation easier.

The reward isn’t just discipline—it’s intimacy with God. 🙌

💡 Encouragement for You

Brother, don’t be afraid of the hunger. Hunger is holy when it points you to God. Every craving you deny makes your spirit stronger. Every time you say “no” to lust, you say “yes” to freedom.

You’re not just fighting lust—you’re training your soul for battle.

  3. Journal how your flesh reacted—and how your spirit responded.

🙏 Final Prayer

“Father, I confess that my flesh has been in control for too long. Teach me to discipline my body and make it submit to You. Help me to hunger for Your Word more than for lust. Strengthen me when the cravings come. Let every ‘no’ to sin become a louder ‘yes’ to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
