Discipline and the Devoted Life
A 7-day journey exploring biblical discipline as the pathway to spiritual maturity, godly character, and a life fully devoted to Christ's purposes and kingdom.
About this plan
Discipline is often misunderstood in our culture. Many view it as restrictive, punitive, or joyless—something imposed against our will. Yet the Bible presents discipline in a radically different light. Biblical discipline is an act of love, a pathway to freedom, and the foundation of a devoted life.
The word "discipline" comes from the same root as "disciple." To be a disciple of Christ is to embrace the discipline He offers—not because we fear punishment, but because we trust His wisdom and love. Discipline shapes us into the image of Christ, refines our character, and positions us to experience the fullness of God's purpose for our lives.
Throughout Scripture, we see that discipline produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope (Romans 5:3-4). From the Proverbs' repeated emphasis on the value of discipline to Paul's athletic metaphors about training our spirits, God's Word consistently teaches that a devoted life requires intentional, sustained effort.
This study will explore how discipline functions in the Christian life: why God disciplines those He loves, how we can discipline ourselves spiritually, and what a life of true devotion looks like. You'll discover that discipline isn't about earning God's favor—it's about positioning yourself to receive it, to grow in it, and to reflect it to a watching world.
As you work through these seven days, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you need greater discipline and to strengthen your resolve to live a life fully devoted to Christ. 🙏✨📖
