The Church and LGBTQ+ Questions: A Biblical Foundation for Compassion
A seven-day study exploring Scripture's teaching on sexuality, identity, and how the church can respond with both truth and love to LGBTQ+ questions.
About this plan
The intersection of faith and LGBTQ+ issues represents one of the most pressing pastoral challenges facing the modern church. Many believers feel caught between competing convictions—a desire to honor biblical teaching and a call to extend radical love to all people. This study is designed not to provide simplistic answers, but to ground us in Scripture while cultivating wisdom, humility, and compassion.
Over the next seven days, we will examine what the Bible says about human sexuality, gender, identity, and belonging. We will explore how Jesus modeled radical inclusion while maintaining moral clarity. We will consider the experiences of those who experience same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria, and reflect on how the church can be a place of authentic welcome without compromising its convictions.
This study assumes several principles:
First, that Scripture is authoritative and deserves careful, honest engagement. We won't cherry-pick verses or ignore difficult passages. Second, that all people bear God's image and deserve dignity, respect, and love—regardless of their beliefs or experiences. Third, that the church's credibility depends on how well we embody both truth and grace. Jesus never asked us to choose between them.
Whether you identify as LGBTQ+, have loved ones who do, or simply want to think more carefully about these issues, this study invites you into deeper biblical reflection. You may not resolve every tension, but you will be more equipped to engage with wisdom, humility, and authentic Christian love. 💙
