The Life of Aquila and Priscilla: Partners in Ministry
Discover how Aquila and Priscilla modeled partnership, hospitality, and faithful service in the early church. A 7-day study on marriage, ministry, and mentorship.
About this plan
When we think of power couples in Scripture, Aquila and Priscilla often don't make the highlight reel. Yet their story is one of the most inspiring examples of partnership, both in marriage and in ministry. Unlike some biblical figures who dominate the narrative, this couple worked quietly and faithfully alongside the apostle Paul, opening their homes, sharing their skills, and even risking their lives for the gospel.
Who were they? Aquila was a Jewish tentmaker from Pontus, and Priscilla (also called Prisca) was his wife. They lived during the first century when the Roman Emperor Claudius expelled Jews from Rome. This displacement became the catalyst for their meeting with Paul in Corinth, where they shared a trade and, more importantly, a passion for Christ.
Why study their lives? In an age of individual achievement and personal branding, Aquila and Priscilla remind us that some of the most significant kingdom work happens in partnership. They weren't apostles or prophets with their names in headlines, yet they:
📌 Mentored Apollos, a gifted speaker, helping him understand the faith more completely
📌 Hosted a church in their home, providing space for believers to gather
📌 Risked their necks for Paul's life, demonstrating sacrificial love
📌 Traveled across continents—from Rome to Corinth to Ephesus—spreading the gospel
Their legacy teaches us that faithfulness in small things, loyalty to fellow believers, and hospitality are spiritual gifts that change the world. Over these seven days, we'll trace their journey, examine their character, and discover how their example challenges us to be faithful partners in God's kingdom, whether in marriage, church, or community.
