The Theology of Vocation: Finding God's Calling in Your Work
Explore biblical foundations of vocation, understanding work as God's design, discovering your calling, and integrating faith with daily labor across seven transformative days.
About this plan
Throughout Scripture, we encounter a profound truth: work is not a curse, but a calling. From the very beginning, God designed humanity to participate in meaningful labor. Genesis reveals that before sin entered the world, Adam was placed in the Garden to tend and keep it—work existed as part of God's perfect design, not as punishment.
The concept of vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, meaning "to call." This study explores how God calls each believer to stewardship, excellence, and purpose through their work and daily responsibilities. Whether you're a teacher, tradesperson, parent, artist, or business professional, your labor matters to God and contributes to His kingdom purposes.
Many Christians compartmentalize their faith, viewing Sunday worship as "spiritual" while treating weekday work as merely secular. But Scripture demolishes this false divide. Your vocation is a sacred trust. Paul writes that whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord. This means your integrity in the office, your diligence at home, your creativity in your craft—these are acts of worship.
Over the next seven days, we'll examine how God calls us to work, how we can discern our vocation, and how we can pursue excellence and righteousness in our labor. We'll discover that vocation isn't primarily about finding the "perfect job"—it's about recognizing that wherever God has placed you, you are called to glorify Him through faithful, excellent, loving service.
This journey will challenge you to see your daily work through God's eyes and to embrace your vocation as a vital expression of your faith and discipleship. 🙏
