The Law and the Gospel: Understanding God's Perfect Plan
A 7-day journey exploring how God's Law reveals our need for grace and how the Gospel fulfills what the Law could never accomplish.
About this plan
Throughout Scripture, two powerful themes weave together to tell the story of God's redemption: the Law and the Gospel. Many Christians struggle to understand how these relate to each other. Does the Law condemn us? Does grace eliminate the need for obedience? How do they work together in God's plan?
The Law—God's holy standard revealed through Moses—was never meant to save us. Instead, it serves as a mirror, showing us our sinfulness and our desperate need for a Savior. "The law was our guardian to lead us to Christ," Paul wrote in Galatians. The Law exposes sin, but it cannot remove it. This is where the Gospel enters—the good news that Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law perfectly and paid the penalty for our breaking it through His death and resurrection.
Understanding the relationship between Law and Gospel transforms how we read the Bible and live our faith. It frees us from the burden of trying to earn God's favor while also establishing that God's moral standards still matter. We are saved by grace alone, not by works of the Law, yet we are called to live in obedience out of gratitude for that grace.
This seven-day study will guide you through key passages that illuminate how the Law reveals our need, how the Gospel provides our redemption, and how both work together in the Christian life. As you work through each day, ask the Holy Spirit to give you fresh insight into God's perfect plan of salvation and sanctification. 🙏
