A Theology of Beauty and Art
Explore how God's creative nature reveals itself through beauty and art, discovering our purpose as image-bearers called to create.
About this plan
Throughout Scripture, we encounter a God who is not merely functional but deeply creative and aesthetic. From the intricate design of creation to the detailed instructions for the tabernacle, the Bible reveals that beauty matters to God. Yet in many Christian circles, art and beauty are often sidelined as frivolous or secondary to "spiritual" pursuits. This study challenges that perspective.
This seven-day journey will help you understand that beauty is not a luxury but a reflection of God's character. When we create art, design spaces, compose music, or craft words, we participate in the divine creative act. We are made in the image of the Creator (Genesis 1:27), and that image includes our capacity to recognize, appreciate, and produce beauty.
You'll discover that theology of beauty is not escapism from real faith—it's a deeper engagement with who God is. The psalmists sang about God's beauty. Jesus taught in parables, using earthly imagery to convey heavenly truth. The apostle Paul wrote about whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely (Philippians 4:8).
As you work through this study, you'll learn to see your creative pursuits—whether you consider yourself an artist or not—as a form of worship and obedience. You'll explore how beauty points us toward God, how art can serve spiritual transformation, and how reclaiming beauty in our faith can deepen our walk with Christ. 🎨✨
